The Firm

Our Story

Charles River Law Partners LLC specializes in all areas of residential and commercial real estate. In addition, we provide legal counsel and representation to clients in the negotiation and litigation of civil disputes and in matters of adoption and family formation.

We opened our doors in 2015 as a collaboration between attorneys Christopher W. Vaughn-Martel and Donald H. Angus, Jr. Chris and Don each bring more than a decade of legal experience with substantive knowledge in litigation and transactional practice. Both Chris and Don operated successful law practices in Boston prior to teaming up with the goal of better serving our growing and dynamic client bases.

Our attorneys are appointed by courts, conduct trainings and seminars, and volunteer and support the local community. We have also received honors for pro bono work and advocacy and have been named "Rising Stars" in Boston Magazine's list of Super Lawyers in 2009, 2016, and 2017. We draw on our collective strengths and experience to offer sound advice, creative legal strategies, and zealous advocacy for our clients.

Christopher W. Vaughn-Martel, Esq.

Managing Partner

Attorney Vaughn-Martel's practice focuses on all aspects of real estate law, including residential purchase and sales, petitions to partition real estate and other owner disputes, condominium development and representation, and landlord-tenant. Since becoming a lawyer, Christopher has practiced in the unique and growing field of family creation and fertility law, including adoption, donor agreements, surrogacy, and parentage. With a background in litigation, Christopher zealously advocates for his clients in real estate, personal injury, and other civil disputes.

Christopher has been recognized by colleagues as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer - Rising Star in 2009, 2016, 2017 and a Top Attorney in New England - Rising Star in 2017.

Christopher is a proud resident of Dorchester, Massachusetts, where he lives with his husband Brian and their son Elliott.

Donald H. Angus, Jr., Esq.

managing partner

Attorney Angus practices in the areas of commercial and residential real estate transactions. Don’s experience in the real estate industry began in 1988 when he first began selling homes. Since that time, he has worked in almost every area of the business – as a real estate broker, title examiner, and as an attorney. Don has worked on closings in almost every area of Massachusetts, from Pittsfield to Nantucket.

In addition to representing home buyers, sellers, and lenders, Don also works as title counsel on complex commercial transactions. He is a Land Court-appointed title examiner and manages projects ranging from strip malls to sports arenas and downtown office buildings. He has also conducted several condominium conversions and has significant experience in commercial lease analysis and negotiation.

Brian R. Vaughn-Martel, Esq.

Practice Consultant

Attorney Vaughn-Martel provides practice management consulting for Charles River Law Partners. In addition, he is the Director of Private Practice Initiatives and J.D. Advising at Suffolk University Law School. Prior to Suffolk, Brian was a Litigation Associate in the Boston office of K&L Gates, LLP, where he represented corporate clients in matters involving commercial litigation, mortgage banking, class action defense, bankruptcy, and government enforcement. He also served on a trial team that represented generic pharmaceutical manufacturers in the nationwide Average Wholesale Price litigation.

Prior to his legal career, Brian worked for Columbia Management Group (a division of Bank of America) as a trainer in career, leadership, and management development. He was also a Series 6 and 63 licensed financial representative.

In his spare time, Brian is an actor in the local theatre community and has performed on stage with various companies, including Reagle Music Theatre in Waltham, The Footlight Club in Jamaica Plain, The Umbrella Community Arts Center in Concord, and the Woodland Theatre Company in Medfield, among others.
